Legislation: new EU organic rules effective in 2021The European Parliament has adopted the new European organic regulation on 19 April. Further, the Council endorsed the text on 22 May and the revision has been officially published n the Official Journal of the European Union as of 14 June. This means that the new organic regulation will apply from 1 January 2021, more specifically it concerns Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2018 on organic production and labelling of organic products. The Council Regulation (EC) no. 834/2007 will then be repealed. The EU organic regulation has a major impact on organic farmers, processors, traders, retailers, certifiers, researchers and consumers. After today’s publication of the new organic regulation, IFOAM EU provides you with a brief overview on the main changes that can be expected in the near future: Over the coming two years it will be decided as to how the legislation can be implemented in everyday practice. Primoris will, in turn, follow these adaptations very closely in order to keep supporting the organic market in the most efficient manner possible. |
