How to evaluate detections of mosquito protection agents in organic products?

Primoris is recognized by the German Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren (BNN) in the context of residue analysis on organic vegetables and fruits. As a result we are entitled to include BNN conclusions into our reporting system.

We would like to inform our clients from the organic sector that the personal protection against mosquitos is not covered by the EU regulation on organic production, which means that any findings of DEET (N,N-Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide or diethyltoluamide) aren’t evaluated using the BNN Orientation Value. 

National regulations apply

If present, national regulations apply for the evaluation of findings of DEET.
For example for Germany, products containing DEET above 0.01 mg/kg (MRL according to the German Regulation on MRLs – RHmV, Rückstandshöchstmengenverordnung) can only be placed on the market in Germany if a valid special permit is provided according to §68 or general ruling according to §54 LFGB (German Food and Feed Code).
